A Great Resource for Cape Cod Building Ideas

Our motto at LaBarge Homes is “When tradition meets the future,” so we take great interest in, and have great respect for the architectural history of Cape Cod.

The architectural styles you see on Cape Cod are timeless. They travel well, too, as you’ll see various forms of Cape Cod and Colonial style homes throughout the United States.

One of the most informative books you’ll find on this architecture is Jane Gitlin’s Capes: Design Ideas for Renovating, Remodeling, and Building New.

The book is informative, entertaining. Gitlin writes vividly and affectionately about the Cape Cod architecture. The book includes plenty of beautifully shot photos, including many of newer homes built in the style. There is plenty of discussion of how the style can be incorporated in home remodels on various scales, and how to create the Cape Cod look in new homes.

This is an excellent resource for planning the new home you dream of, or a style-appropriate addition to your home. It will inspire ideas and offer some practical tips on how to make the style work for you.

We’d add, too, that even if you’re just planning to rent a Cape Cod home for the summer, you’ll arrive with an even greater appreciation of the homes you’ll see in the area.
