Expanding the Home for the Family

In 2011, according to Builder online magazine, there was an increased amount of homeowners requesting floor plans with two owner suites. This was as a result of the continually growing number of multigenerational households. Grandma suites, also called mother-in-law suites, are on the rise as well. Now that the average person is living longer, there are many families who chose to bring their aging parents into their home for care purposes. These suites include a bedroom with a master bath attached.

There has even been cases due to the recent economy where married kids are moving back home in order to regroup or share expenses. This trend does not really effect the common living areas like the living room, kitchen, family room etc. However, when it comes to sleeping arrangements, the bedroom plan is changing to accommodate a growing family once again.
