However, according to a recent study conducted on behalf of the National Association of Home Builders, Americans still believe that owning a home is an integral part of the American Dream.

According to Neil Newhouse of Public Opinion Strategies, one of the companies that conducted the survey, “Homeownership is worth the risk, pure and simple…Even though the market is weak, people who don’t own say they wnt to buy a house. Almost three-quarters of those who do not currently own a home, 73 percent, said owning a home is one of their goals.” He also noted that the percentage who want to own a home is even higher among the younger participants.

Other interesting findings in the study show that Americans consider owning a home as important as success at work and the ability to pay for a family member’s education, and that they consider home ownership and retirement savings to be the best choice in investments.
