Saving Energy in the Attic

If you have a good remodeling contractor, believe that they are in fact always looking for ways to help you, their clients, save energy and money. And when it comes to making significant energy-efficient renovations to your home, the attic is more than likely the culprit where the most energy is lost.

If you look at the focus of many weatherization rebate programs and tax incentives over the past few decades, it has been centered on heaping insulation into the attic. However, piling on insulation just deals with half of the energy-loss issue for a typical home. What really needs to be a part of the retrofit or weatherization project is including air sealing in order to reduce the amount of heat transfer through the attic. If you are looking  to reduce the air leakage in your home by up to 40 %  and drop the home’s space-conditioning costs by 20 to 40 percent,  your home’s attic needs to be retrofitted with a combination of air-sealing and insulation.
